Today the 71st edition of the Vuelta a España finished in Madrid. Like every year, the riders had to ride several laps in the centre of the Spanish capital. After the race, Nairo Quintana celebrated his first overall win of the Vuelta on the Plaza de Cibeles. Christopher Froome and Esteban Chaves finished second and third on GC. Magnus Cort Nielsen sprinted to the last stage win.

Team LottoNL-Jumbo ends the 71st edition of the Vuelta a España with a victory of Robert Gesink in the queen stage and a tenth place of George Bennett in the overall standings. The last stage in Madrid was won by Magnus Cort Nielsen (Orica - Bike Exchange). George Bennett of LottoNL-Jumbo crossed the line as 29th. Nairo Quintana (Movistar) won the final standings holding off Chris Froome (Team Sky) and Johan Esteban Chaves (Orica - Bike Exchange)

We expected fireworks on the penultimate stage of the Vuelta a España with its punishing profile that included four classified climbs before a final especial category ascent to the finish. From the off the attacks were relentless, and Tinkoff was quick to cover the moves. After a hard fight, Alberto Contador crossed the line in 13th at the end of the 193km stage, slipping back to fourth overall by just a handful of seconds.

LottoNL-Jumbo rider Robert Gesink finished fifth in a tough penultimate stage of the Vuelta. The stage was won by Pierre Latour (AG2R). Nairo Quintana (Movistar) was never in danger and retained on to his red leader's jersey.

Era el último gran esfuerzo de esta Vuelta ciclista a España, y el pelotón se lo tomó como tal. Los intereses de los hombres que peleaban por la general propiciaron una vez más un altísimo ritmo desde el banderazo de salida. Todos los equipos -incluido el conjunto 'verde'- buscaban con ahínco estar presentes en los numerosos cortes que se fueron formando. El bueno fue el que integraron Gesink (TLJ), Sánchez (AST), Didier (TFR), Bakelants (ALM), Kochetkov (KAT), Frank (IAM) y Molard (COF); llegando a distanciar al pelotón de favoritos hasta casi los diez minutos.
